Have you ever thought about living a little simpler? Maybe a little more real life and a little less Pinterest-perfect? I’ve pinned many a thing on Pinterest…dreamed about the garden, the homemade pantry, the from-scratch kitchen…and then gotten completely overwhelmed trying to figure out where to even start.

I’m ready to stop pinning the life I want and start actually creating it ~ one little swap at a time.

I want a kitchen full of mismatched mason jars, a sourdough starter with a name, and somehow the little people pick up after themselves.

I mean real~life simple.

Cooking more from scratch, growing what I can, and having a pantry stocked with homemade staples. I’d like to use what we have and waste less, saving money at the same time. And I want to pay more attention to what I’m bringing into our home.

Sounds good…right?

Here’s the problem.

When I get an idea in my head, I think I need to do ALL OF IT IMMEDIATELY…like now!!

Make the bread! Grow the tomatoes! Make the laundry detergent! Learn to preserve food! Plant a cottage garden! Make yogurt! Maybe become an 1800s homesteader before lunch!

And that is exactly how “living more simply” becomes…a whole lot more work. 😂

So I’m trying something different…

One little swap at a time.

I’m making more and buying less, but I’m also figuring out which things are actually worth making. Because if a homemade version takes six hours, costs twice as much, and my family leaves it sitting on the counter…we probably don’t need to make that again.

This isn’t going to be a blog about having it all figured out. Instead, it’s going to be about figuring it out.

The recipes that become keepers. The garden experiments that actually grow. The homemade swaps that save us money. The ones that absolutely do not. The projects I probably made harder than necessary. And all the little ways I’m trying to make our home feel simpler, healthier, cozier, and more like us.

I have no idea exactly where this is going to take me, and honestly, that’s kind of the fun of it.

Some things will work. Some things will be a complete disaster. I’ll probably get way too excited and try to do twelve things at once again. But I’ll share it all here—the good stuff, the messes, and everything I learn along the way.

So, welcome to Sunflowers & Sage.

Let’s see what happens. 🌻
